Since When Has It Been Friday?
I'm kinda at a loss to say what happened to my week.
I wasn't feeling great over the weekend, therefore didn't get done the stuff I needed to get done (including a chapter written *cough* and sorry for those still waiting--I'm nearly done). Monday was a holiday here, which I spent trying to finish up some things and still spent a good chunk of time laying down. Then Tuesday my doorbell rang--hey, look, new windows! Except...no person there to install them. Huh? While trying to figure out wtf was going on, my water was shut off, which freaked me out for a few hours 'til a very hot young plumber guy came to tell me something was leaking downstairs, but it was all fixed. Then I had to start moving furniture so the guy installing the windows would have room to, like, install them. That would have involved unplugging the computer, though, so I held off and found out later he'd be by the next morning.
At 8 am.
If you know me, you know I'm not a morning person. I get up between ten and eleven every day and that suits me just fine. So I functioned Wednesday on about four hours of sleep until I took a nap in the evening, and it proved to me that I'm just too fucking old for that shit now. If I don't get six to seven hours, I'm toast--I can't even think.
Thursday was catchup for stuff I missed the previous couple of days. And I sat down today, saw all the follow fridays on Twitter, and was like "OMG it's Friday. How did that happen?"
There's this weird thing when you work from home--you have all this time to do stuff and it's like nothing gets done. Everyone interrupts, your schedule bends to other people, and at the end of the day you look and say, "Jesus, what the hell happened?" I wrote before about setting limits and sometimes that doesn't even help--sometimes you just wake up and it's Friday and you wonder where your work week went. And then combine all this with the fact that the hotter and more humid the weather is, the more screwed up the cell phone signals that my internet uses become. Yeah, fun!
Guess who's working Saturday and Sunday this week? Le sigh.
In short: I'm alive, I'm working, and if you're waiting on anything from me, I swear to you that I'll get to it.

#1 Oh boy, I do know what you
Oh boy, I do know what you mean. It's doubly difficult for me at the moment as kids on hols from school so I don't HAVE to get up and it is so easy to just lie there for that extra half hour (that turns into at least a full one). Then there's things like "oh, it's sunny so I'd best put some washing out" or "hmmm, the ironing needs doing" - did I mention I was a procrastinator?? And like you say, you work around everyone else's needs - have you eaten today son/daughter, you need a lift somewhere oh OK then, sure come in parents I wasn't doing anything important.
Work if you must but remember Saturdays & Sundays were intended to be SAT in the SUN
:-)
#2 I'm lucky I don't have kids
I'm lucky I don't have kids yet, but I run into, "I should take the dog out/clean the rabbits/re-pot some plants/etc" all the time. And sometimes I can't work when things are messy, so I spend a couple hours cleaning just to get it off my mind...then there's this vicious cycle where I feel compelled to bake something messy AFTER I've cleaned. And if Mum drops by to ask if I want to go for lunch, I shrug and say okay 'cause that's just what you do when you're a starving writer and someone offers you lunch. ;-)
I'm going to aim for putting in five hours on Sat and five hours on Sun for work. That should get me caught up as long as the internet connection behaves itself.
