You’ve got BLOOD TIES questions! I’ve (maybe) got answers I’ll share!

This post is for the Oblivion readers who may or may not be burning with questions after diving into the spinoff sent twenty-five years after the main books.

Just because I stopped writing the series after Oblivion (other than a few short pieces) doesn’t mean the stories stopped in my head. I don’t 100% know everything that was going to happen–I’m always surprised by things in my books–but I knew a lot of the big pieces. Elisabeta’s birth–and the circumstances that led to it–was always in the cards and something I’ve known about for, oh, ten years now?

I’ll put this behind a cut and a spoiler warning so you can look away if you’d rather not be spoiled more having not read the original series, though I’m not honestly answering too much here.

Also: nothing here is about Elis’s future books. I have #2 sketched out, I have a few titles and plot points in mind for after that, but I never answer those kinds of spoilers, so don’t expect that here. This is pre-Blood Ties only.

What happened to Zara?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What happened to Peri?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Where’s Ryann?

Okay this one I’ll actually (sort of) answer since I don’t see any chance of this ever coming up in Elis’s books…

Ryann is fucking retired.

She was always the hero to me. She was the leader. When Zara swears revenge on Peri and Peri tells her she’ll try and fail, she was right–that was never going to come down to Zara v. Peri, though not for the reasons either of them thought. By the time there was a final war in the series, Zara had far too much to lose, as you might be able to piece together. She was always, first and foremost, concerned with herself.

Ryann was the one concerned with the greater good. Ryann was the hero. It was always going to be her to rise against Peri.

So where is she twenty-five years later? SHE IS DONE WITH EVERYONE’S BULLSHIT AND SHE RETIRED. She’s not huge on tropical places, but I do see her on a white sandy beach under the sun. At this point she’d be in her forties with zero fucks to give. She got the Captain America ending where she’s got trauma but she’s happy and I will leave her the fuck alone.

What happened to the rest of the hunters in Venatores Daemonum?

I am not 100% sure, though I know many were lost in battle. I’m not sure who, if any, would be seen in Elis’s book; considering she’s one of the monsters that go bump in the night, she likely wouldn’t be too cozy with hunters (thought tbf neither would Zara and she still had Ryann).

Where is Elliot Rhys?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is Juliette still kicking around?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Did Heaven and Enki ever go after Dev and/or are they still stuck in a dying Oblivion?

That sounds like it’s Dev’s story and not Elis’s, doesn’t it?

How was Elis even born considering neither parents should’ve been able to have children?

I mean…it is a major part of Elis’s character that she knows she shouldn’t exist, so I expect some of that to be either revisited or at least inferred by readers at some point. In the main series (had it continued) she would’ve been born around the end of the eighth book, Viral, which was Nate’s POV. Since that was all cancelled, it’ll have to be pieced together in Elis’s series, although she explained a bit of it in the last chapter of Blood Ties.

Will Rodney live forever?

Yes.

There are small hints what happened to Zara and how Elis was born in the book. You have to look closely, but they are there. *giggle* I’m so thrilled with this series!!

What I’m Working On:

Writing Elis 5. Also kind of sort of writing Waverly 8.

I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
