A diverse cast of characters come together in classic urban fantasy about monsters, the people who hunt them, and the occasional apocalypse. Snarky humor, magic with bite, nonstop action, a dose of romance, and at its core: broken people finding family in one another. Also, there’s a saber-tooth cat named Sir Rodney Ballsgalore. Because reasons.
With the release of Oblivion, this series is now complete.
Novels

Bloodlines (#1)
If you’re in her way, it sucks to be you.
After three hundred years of unlife, narcissistic vampire Zara Lain has seemingly done it all, and she’s now making a living as a successful thief-turned-assassin. Her newest assignment seems simple enough: kill the aging leader of the O’Connor coven and his only heir, and she’ll have another ten million in the bank.
But in the dangerous world of the supernatural, few things are ever “simple.”
When a massive assault decimates the continent’s population of powerful witches and warlocks, and its orchestrator has vampires being hunted down and captured, Zara realizes the tables have turned and now she’ll be playing the hero. Forced to join with a smart-mouthed fellow vampire, a demonologist who’s also a fan of hers, a recently widowed—and frequently brooding—warlock, and her best friend’s mom, Zara’s grudgingly willing to do what she can to save the day.
If only people would stop ruining all her outfits…
Bloodlines also includes the short story Thrall, written in the POV of Nate O’Connor. Thrall is set toward the end of Bloodlines during a four-month gap in the timeline.

Hunter (#2)
Predators beware.
Sometimes natural predators need to be kept in check, and for that, there’s Ryann David. Orphaned as an infant and raised by an exiled branch of the church to become a warrior for God, she and her fellow members of Venatores Daemonum have trained all their lives with only one purpose: destroy all demons in the mortal realm.
But when Ryann and her team are sent to hunt down a vampire who has killed one of their own, a new world of danger, betrayal, and conspiracy greets her. Allied with an irreverent psychic detective and the very monsters she was raised to kill, Ryann will risk everything—her life, her faith, and her heart—in pursuit of the truth as the black and white existence she knew turns a murky shade of gray.
Hunter also includes the short story, Malice. Set just before the epilogue, Malice follows vampire Zara Lain as she realizes old enemies haven’t forgotten about her and might rise again. Stacking the cards in her favour puts her at odds with her best friend and assistant Nicolette, however.

Lineage (#3)
Family reunions suck.
What’s a woman to do when her dad’s the antichrist, her grandma’s the devil, the end of the world is at her doorstep, and she’s out to avenge the murders of her husband and kids?
Kill everything in her way.
Quarter-demon Peri Takata exists with but one goal in mind: annihilate everyone responsible for the death of her family. Then—her need for vengeance quelled—she plans to take her own life.
Her mission brings her to vampire Zara Lain, the only known survivor of the event that destroyed Peri’s family five years ago. Hunting down a secret society of those who don’t want to be found has its challenges, however, especially when forces are working to keep the antichrist’s daughter very much alive. The apocalypse is closing in and Peri may be playing a role in it whether she wants to or not.
And when a heart long-thought dead begins to beat again with love for another, she’s not so sure about anything anymore.
Lineage also contains the short story Sunrise. Since the worst hasn’t come to pass, warlock Nate O’Connor sets about fortifying cabin where he and Zara are staying and keeping out the coming sunrise.

Exhumed (#4)
Some people just won’t stay buried…
Zara Lain, narcissistic vampire and assassin, cleaned up after a crazy warlock tried to build a vampire army, made some cash when the North American covens were left in shambles, got away when framed for the murder of a Demon Hunter, and dealt with some idiots who tried to jumpstart Armageddon. None of that could prepare her, however, for the moment when her lover of the undead persuasion awakens…
And promptly tries to kill her.
She’s raised a handful of orphaned baby vampires during the past six years and she knows the score: if they don’t get sane again, they have to be staked. And even if she can fix her would-be boyfriend, he’s not the only formerly deceased one in town who wants to kill her. Old enemies are back to put a cramp in her love life, ruin a good pair of heels, and just maybe end the world.
An apocalypse is nigh…and it gets a lot worse than having nothing to wear to the occasion.
Exhumed also contains the short story Fated, which follows witch/quarter-demon Mishka Thiering during the last week of her life.

Oblivion (#5)
Earthquakes. Plagues. Rivers of blood. The ever-so-popular rain of toads. When end of the world fare is on the rise, it’s well past business as usual in a city where the veil between dimensions is thin.
Quarter-demon Persephone Takata isn’t so keen on killing herself anymore. This time when death approaches, she’s ready to take a stand and fight to protect the woman she loves, along with everyone around them as the apocalypse swings into full force.
Meanwhile, trapped in her home dimension where her antichrist father’s rule is weakening, Mishka Thiering’s hopes for revenge on the living are put on hold when she stumbles across the truth the Court has kept hidden for centuries. Her death was the last piece of the puzzle, leading to a change in the dimensional landscape, affecting humans and demons alike.
Despite its fractured numbers, the shadowy organization who has kept tabs on Peri and Mishka for years is still very much in the game, ready to set into motion their final plan. For there is something much, much worse waiting in the wings—something old, something powerful, and something far more terrifying than Oblivion or any of the creatures it’s spawned.
Alliances, betrayals, casualties.
This is war. And only one sister can win.

The novels are NOT standalone.
The available glimpses at a post-Oblivion world are in Tales from Alchemy Red: Dial V for Vampire and Counterpoint: Always Kill a Boy on the First Date, both which takes place after what would’ve been Zara’s next narrated book. Dial V is available for Patrons of Snark at “A Little More” reward level and up, and on Payhip, Counterpoint is everywhere.
Also…uh, you might want to check out Elis O’Connor. If you’d like the recommended series reading order, it’s here.
There were several more books planned but sales and piracy don’t justify continuing, so Oblivion concludes the main series.

Damaged: A Zara Lain Novella
Fresh off the events of Exhumed, snarky vampire and professional narcissist Zara Lain is still adjusting after accidentally triggering the apocalypse and everything that happened to her. An escape from her life seems in order, one that takes her and Sir Rodney Ballsgalore—her trusty saber-toothed cat companion—deep in the woods of northern Ontario for some R&R.
It’s not just nightmares that follow; trouble is always on Zara’s heels, this time in the form of some idiot vacationing teenagers summoning something they can’t control. Though she believes stupid should hurt and doesn’t want to lift a well-manicured finger to help them, once the creature burns through the kids it’ll be coming after her.
But Zara’s not the survive-at-all-costs girl she once was. She’s damaged, she’s tired, and she might not have the fight left in her to live when death comes knocking this time around…

Counterpoint: Always Kill a Boy on the First Date
Snarky vampire Zara Lain decides to end a dry spell by doing something new: she asks out her saber-tooth cat’s veterinarian for drinks.
The guy is nice. The date goes well.
And then all hell breaks loose.
An old enemy is back and willing to do anything to make her save him from an assassination attempt–bribes, threats, and even making her the new target.
Tales from Alchemy Red (Short Stories)

Hungry Like the Wendigo
Someone’s been haunting Alchemy Red…
It’s Halloween and a costume party is in full swing at the club city supernaturals like to visit. But not all is well: a particularly powerful spirit is haunting the joint, and despite the club’s clientele of vampires, witches, and half-demons, random fires and levitating tables are bad for business not to mention horrific attacks on staff members.
Getting rid of the spirit seems like a simple enough job for Demon Hunter Ryann David, her psychic detective boyfriend, and their vampire friend… But this is no ordinary spirit. It’s old. It’s hungry. And it’ll tear through anyone standing in its way.
(This is a Ryann David short story set between Hunter and Lineage.)

Prey
A pair of assassins descend on Alchemy Red with a contract and a target.
This is not their best decision.

Dial V for Vampire
Set in the distant future a year and a half after Oblivion, Zara Lain gets a call for help she can’t ignore: her former lover woke next to a dead body, framed for murder, and she’s the one he trusts to help him unravel what really happened.
But Zara doesn’t have the resources or power she once did. The world has changed.
And so has she.
