User Points

Just a note that this is an old post--the points system is over. I hadn't really thought people would be bothered with it, and while the interest was nice, it caught me by surprise and I had to scramble to fix the flaws. But it was also abused and misinterpreted a lot.

And then I lost my second part time job.

In the new year, I'm going subscription only for the rest of Part Three (chapters 13-22). All money received at this point will be going towards vet money for my dog (info about that to your left). Anyone who wants to chip into the fund early is welcome to be bumped to VIP to read chapters posted (8-11). Again, it's a little awkward at this stage as I haven't planned much or worked details out, but drop me a line and we'll sort it.

Someone asked a little while ago about points...so here is our official points system:

Amount of points you receive for different actions:

Commenting - 1 point*
Inviting a user - 1 point
The person you invited registers - 5 points
Referring a user** - 1 point
Writing a review somewhere on the internet*** - 10 points
Donating - 1 point per $****

*(Don't abuse the comment feature.)
**(see your account page for the referral link)
***(review must be at least 150 words)
****(if your PayPal account doesn't match the email address you signed up with, please let the webmaster know)

Points for reviews and donating are both added manually. User points are collected from both this site and Curio Killed the Cat. As well, you get points for every review, regardless of whether it was for Catharsis, Children of the Apocalypse, or Curio Killed the Cat (hell, if you write a review of my commercial work on Amazon or something, you also get points).

I completely understand your decision. I would be more than happy to pay for a download of your completed COTA or CKC works if you ever make them available for sale & download.

The problem is that I used to have the completed CotA works available at a nominal price for download (although they're free on the site too), but when done through Lulu, 30% of my revenue is withheld because I'm Canadian, and six months to a year can go by before I see any of the money left. My boyfriend is looking at a way to have people shop directly on the site. Until he can do that, I'll only be selling the paperbacks (which I don't really make much money off of because, again, Lulu withholds an extra 30%).

Finally getting off my arse

Alright, so I do love this serial and I want to show my support, but I'm still inclined to take the "lazy" way out first if only to satisfy my own impatience.

When it comes to reviewing, I had a quick question:

If I were to post reviews on five individual sites, I imagine that would be the quickest way to amass fifty points (and I should hope would bring in other readers to cover for my personal inattentiveness D=). But, would that mean writing five individual reviews (a different one for each place) or could I just post the same one in all five places?

I really do intend to try to comment more often now here though, too - I know how ANNOYING it can be as a writer to not know how people feel about what you're doing/to feel unappreciated for it. I just personally want to build enough points to be able to, you know, continue reading first before I overcome being an ungrateful lurker =D.

You can post the same review five places. You can review Curio Killed the Cat and Catharsis at the places they're listed, and those reviews count too. Hell, someone else wrote a review of one of my commercially published novels, and that got them points.

Also, on your user page, there's a special referrer link--you can post that anywhere to encourage others to visit. If they follow that link, you get a point. If they register after following that link, I think you get points too. (And if there are ever any problems, drop a line to webmaster@skyladancameron.com)

I dont mean to be a bother or anything, but I posted a review on the site goodbooks.com. I chose goodbooks.com because it is the site I found your serials at. I posted the review under Children of the Apocalypse :Book One. I was mostly hoping you could give out the points that I would receive for writing the review. I made sure I followed the 150 word guideline.

CotA: The Beginning is the first one listed, but to find Catharsis you'd have to look in the May 2009 archives (could have sworn I'd read it more recently than that LOL)

The points system was introduced because I asked the community to give something back after I put so much work into this serial. Excessive comments with no substance is not a backdoor to read future chapters and is rather insulting to me after I specifically explained to readers WHY I moved to the points system.
