And So Ends Points...
The point of introducing the points system was because I wanted to temporarily scale down the community while I figured out if I wanted to continue writing the serial or not (since, at the time, I had chapters written until the end of the year).
The good news: I do want to continue writing it because I enjoy having a smaller audience. The bad news (depending on your perspective): the points system is a fail, so we'll be moving to something subscription based.
A big part of this decision came from the number of readers who blatantly tried to abuse the point system, and the constant attempts by people to find a backdoor into reading future chapters. I'll admit: I was quite hurt. I spent a lot of time trying to explain that this wasn't a decision I was making lightly, and to show my perspective and reasons for doing this--that nothing is "free" and I think it's important for readers to value work they enjoy. And a whole lot of people seemed to miss that message.
The other reason we're going subscription only is because I've lost my second part time job, and with the growing concerns regarding my dog's health, I need to pull in some extra money. I can't keep up with the freebies while living in poverty.
An announcement will be made in December about exactly how subscriptions will work (as I haven't a clue yet). As always, the archive will remain in the site, as will Catharsis and Curio Killed the Cat. If you'd like to donate in the meantime and check out chapters 8 - 10 (as well as 11 & 12 when they're posted), please do. But points are hereby "dead" as a way to join in with chapters currently being posted (I *will* develop a way for points to still have a purpose here, just haven't decided yet).
Any questions, please let me know.

Skyla: so as for the people
Skyla: so as for the people that did acheive the points fairly, and deserve to be able to continue reading, will they have to subscribe/pay or whatever you decide also? or will they remain reading for free?
Anyone currently VIP will
Anyone currently VIP will read until the end of the year--that was the original commitment when I first made the announcement in August, and I'm sticking to it. After that, we're going subscription only. The only exceptions for the remainder of the Part Three chapters in 2010 will be the small handful who made large donations already.
Please see above--I literally cannot do this "for free" anymore. I can't afford to. If I don't pull in more income every month, I won't be able to pay my internet bill, and therefore seriously can't post anything at all. If readers don't want to pay for chapters, that's fine--I'm not forcing anyone. If no one buys, then I'll retire from serialing and spend more time on other paying work, and that's okay with me. If my work isn't worth paying for in the opinion of readers, then they are quite within their rights to go on their merry way. What's not okay with me is being expected to do my job, aka writing, for free when I'm already unable to afford basic necessities for myself and my family.

i totally agree and
i totally agree and understand. trust me, i am a mother of 2 babies and it is hard paying the bills, and paying for daycare, and working your butt off only for all the money you get to go to bills and you still cannot make all your bills on time. definitely understand there.... you are so worth reading though! i love your stuff, and i think that is an acceptable decision as far as i am concerned. it is your work, and your time and effort that goes to this, so it should be your decision and nobody should disagree or be mad. the only reason i think they should be mad is because they're going to miss reading your work if they cannot afford to donate to read more.... i know i would!
Affordable is important. I'd
Affordable is important. I'd like to offer a couple of options, and then see what we can swing here so that people get more bang for their buck, so to speak. I live in an area with the Canadian General Motors headquarters, and it seems like every other person is out of work (which is why I'm having no luck with a new second job). I know how tight things are for everyone, so if I can strike a balance that means I get paid and it's not breaking anyone's wallet, all the better.
