I didn't see them so much as switching personalities as just being in very different places than they used to be. Sage has had a lot happen to her and she's matured a lot. She's actually pretty comfortable now, and as her mother pointed out way back in Part Two (and Michael more recently), Gen has had an influence on her. I don't think she "got over" Hayden's death, but with her two chapter arc midway through Part Two, she got to accept it and had some closure. So she's not as depressed/mopey/bitchy anymore.
Gen, on the other hand, has totally lost it. She was always a little whiny and bitchy. Now power has totally gone to her head.
