New Experiment (AKA Why I Will Be Quiet For Awhile)
Did you know Amish women in Ontario walk an average of 14K steps a day, according to one study?
To put in perspective, most people who work desk jobs walk like 3K - 4K.
While I'm not immediately running away to become an Amish ninja yet (this is my dream...and if you don't follow me on Twitter to know this, it's best if I don't get into explaining it), the fact is I sit too much.
I sit all day. I sit down with breakfast. I sit to work the day job. I sit to do extra stuff like edit. I sit to write. I sit when I relax with video games. I sit while having my other meals.
Yes, I get up and run. Yes, I take the dog for a walk. But that doesn't change the fact that I spend most of my day sitting, which the human body wasn't really designed for.
So yesterday I pulled a MacGyver.
Packing tape. String. A shelf. Crouton box that I folded up. Decorative scarf. Shifting of furniture.
Voila: my very own treadmill desk.
I experimented yesterday. I was tiiiiired. Today is my first full-ish day with it and, as of typing this blog entry, I've already walked for two hours, which is probably two or three miles. I've also left the desk a few times to wash the kitchen floor, do dishes, and take the dog out, as I get sore keeping the same slow speed for so long.
This is going to be fantastic for my health. Unfortunately, it's going to wreak havoc with my productivity until I can get a laptop.
Outside of my regular work duties or anything I've already committed to, I can't do anything extra on the computer right now. I'm not even going to be able to reply to a lot of email, which is why I didn't get to reply to much yesterday as I'd intended to. Be prepared for me to say "no" or "not right now"--I physically can't walk/stand for fourteen hours a day at the computer and I'm not shifting the set up back to the couch at the end of every day.
Luckily, I'm still burned out on writing at the moment, so I'm not missing anything there. I'll also probably have to put off The River Wolfe Complete Series release as I haven't time for it right now. It'll take me a bit to save up for an inexpensive laptop to use at night. In the meantime, I'm sorry, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Well, that's it. Wish me luck and thank you for your patience.

As an aside, please head over to Twitter for some fun--Melissa of My World in words and pages is live-tweeting her reading of the Lineage ARC I sent her. No spoilers but it's wicked fun! I <3 her so hard.

Good luck, Skyla! Because of your post, I'm going to get off my butt and do another stint on the elliptical right now before I dive back in to finish writing the end of Maureen & Finn's story. <3
As always, what's best for you comes first :)

My mother says to me last night, "So, do you have more energy?"
Me: "...I don't think you understand how this works. I walked five miles today."
Mum: "Well...yeah. But don't you have more energy?"
Me: "I WALKED FIVE MILES TODAY. I am used to running 1-2 a day. NOT WALKING FIVE MILES ARE YOU INSANE WOMAN WTF???!!!"
