Buffy vs. Edward
I couldn't embed the video here 'cause it messed up my layout, so head here: http://blip.tv/file/2261825/ to see the brilliant video of Twilight remixed with Buffy.
Just for the record, I *would* watch Twilight if Buffy was in it. Otherwise, please don't tell me I need to see it because I like vampires. Yes, I like vampire stories, but not when the vamps fucking sparkle, and not when they attempt to normalize misogyny and dysfunctional relationships for teenagers. And before you bring it up, yes, I write some pretty fucking dysfunctional relationships, but a) my target market isn't teen girls whose brains aren't fully formed yet and are influenced by this shit, b) I never pretend they're NOT dysfunctional and messed up, and c) my heroines don't throw themselves off of cliffs because their boyfriends don't like them anymore. Please go read the Cracked article on the subject and stop talking to me about fucking Twilight.

#1 Buffy & Twilight...
My boyfriend loves Buffy, I've never watched it....
I completely agree with your opinion of Twilight though!
My sister bought the darn books for me, and so I read them out of respect. Not knowing they were made for teenagers, (I'm 28-years old) I Hated them, and wondered :: Why would people like this crap?
The most annoying thing about them has to be the pushed (and not very subtle), "If you want to have 'real' relationships, and a 'tight' bond with people --- Don't have sex with them (at least not before you marry them)."
Typical from a conservative Mormon writer.
It was something I've mentioned to various people, and you will not guess the response I get, "Oh, I never saw that." --- Are people just suddenly more stupid than dirt?
... I Just started reading the first three sections of that link you provided :: LOL! It's So true!

Hi Andrea,
I got in an argument with a girl at work...I think it started with the "you like vampires, have you read Twilight?" bit and I lost it. And the thing that gets me...I list ALL of the stupid/creepy/misogynistic things about it (the stalking, watching her sleep, the fact that she throws herself off a cliff because he breaks up with her, etc), and people just kind of stare at me and say, "Yeah. So?" "But this is stupid and wrong and little girls should NOT be getting this message drilled into their still-developing brains!" And they continue to stare. *headdesk*
Honestly, I've always felt that when I have kids, I'd be open to letting them read/watch just about anything, but I would NOT, under any circumstances, allow my preteen daughter to read that trash without me reading it with her and having long conversations about how the relationship is NOT romantic or healthy.
(And for the record, I haven't read the books--I've read excerpts and detailed plot summaries. I'm an advocate of "don't judge something without reading it, but, like heroin, I don't think I need to try Twilight to know it's bad for me.)
