Week's Beginnings, Nate's Novella, Skyla's Mood Disorder, and Turtles

June 18, 2012 by Skyla

No, blog hasn't been updated in awhile, chickadees. I'm doing a lot more at work. My mood disorder has put me all over the place--extreme highs and crippling lows. I had two sets of copyedits that came in last week. Edits to do. Covers to finish. A handful of other things I'm behind on. I'm supposed to be a writer, too.

Oh yeah, about that--I did finish a novella over the weekend. More on that in a sec.

Anyway, I hit the weekend I was already drained. Then I got too much sun. Then we found a turtle that had been hit and I sobbed for about a day and a half straight.

Did you know that there are turtle rescue places? There are. And if you find one hit who is still alive, sometimes they CAN be helped. Here's the one near me: Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre. If I'm ever done with vet emergencies and have money again, I intend to donate. They do good work.

Okay. So anyway, here is what I'm working on this week.

To Edit:
Fluid Motion - SF smut!
The Ripple Effect - Urban fantasy!

Am Writing...
Solomon's Seal - Attacking my heroine in an Ethiopian cave with giant snake-dragons. Good times.
Oblivion - Peri gave me the opening lines yesterday. Yay!
9 Crimes - A Nate POV novella, just finished.

I started 9 Crimes during Exhumed because...well, because Nate likes to talk to me. And after writing Zara's POV, he was all, "Um, Skyla, you only know half of it--COME LISTEN TO ME TALK NOW." So I wrote a section of the book from his point of view or at least started it.

Mel sent me her notes after reading Exhumed (as I said, review copies aren't going out--she got it early as a good friend of mine) and...um, I kinda felt bad. I mean, there's...let's say, there's a question raised in Exhumed that Zara doesn't know the answer to. And my feeling has always been that the reader shouldn't know until she does.

The problem there is that the answer wasn't going to be given until it was appropriate for Zara to know, which was in Viral (Book #8), and it's increasingly likely that book isn't going to happen. (I've left the announcement about the series' fate as long as possible but I'm going to have to say something soon, I know.)

So anyway, I felt bad for leaving Mel in the lurch, so I finished 9 Crimes and sent it to her over the weekend. Here's her vlog http://melissa-melsworld.blogspot.ca/2012/06/mondays-beginnings-147-vlog... when she was still reading it (you can see the cover 2.5 minutes in). She thinks y'all will need to read it.

I'm thinking about it, I am.

Ideally, I think it best if things unfold as intended. But at the same time, you there, who is reading this, reading all the books so far? I don't want to leave you hanging. So after Exhumed releases, if I'm 100% positive we're done for and I've announced it (I'm approximately 80% sure at the moment but keep hoping for things to pick up), I WILL find a way to get it to you. I promise.

That's it for me. So much to do, so little alcohol to get me through it.

BTW, I'm thinking of posting an exclusive Exhumed excerpt over on my Facebook page. What might you want? Action packed? Sexy? Heartbreaking? Funny? Let me know!

When you said you'd got two sets of copyedits to finish, I had a horrible feeling one of them was mine.... I came here to apologise for causing you stress but it looks like I am innocent of that (this week...). Still, I am sure it will be my fault sometime in the future... :)

No hunny--copyedits for my work to go over LOL. Nothing's your fault. The only ones who cause me stress are those who don't get their jobs done.

I say Action packed! :D

And, well, you know I hate the series is ending....but shyt happens and I hate it. I can't say enough how much I think everyone NEEDS this novella! LOL Seriously, I didn't realize how much I wanted to know until I read this, and non-stop I might add.

Oh, I'm sorry. I'm pushing again. Hope you feel better and get over those edits soon. :) Take care!
