Well, I’ve gone and done it, hitting the “go live” button on the crowdfunding campaign to re-release River.
Everything you could possibly want to know, about perks and donation levels and stretch goals is on the site. The campaign runs until Friday, June 13th, because I have a terrible sense of humor. I won’t be going overboard advertising this, so if y’all could spread the word, I’d greatly appreciate it.
As a friend pointed out, there is nothing really to worry about here despite my darkly spiraling thoughts. If the campaign is funded, the book comes out. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t, and it’s only cost me the time I’ve already spent on rewrites. (edited to clarify: it’s fixed funding rather than flexible because if it doesn’t fully fund, the cost of rewards and shipping will literally put me in the hole. So it had to be all or nothing.) The ball is officially out of my court and I can’t worry.
Still, if you’ll excuse me…

Hi Skyla,
I’m curious about the River project. I’ve used Kickstarter before but not Indiegogo, so I have a couple of questions which I couldn’t work out. How does payment work? (Ie is it only if the whole project is funded). Is it through amazon? The fundraising website asks for an address but not an email address for the fulfilment. What if i only interested in a digital reward.

It’s “fixed funding”, which means if the campaign doesn’t fully fund, all money is refunded to contributors. It’s not through Amazon; payments are made through PayPal to me, which means they can be made through PayPal or credit card by contributors. I have no idea what the website says it requires, but I used IGG to fundraise for a friend last month and every single transaction gave us email addresses for the contributors, so I assume at some point while one contributes, an email address is given.

Cheers & good luck. Ah The other thing I couldn’t work out is on Kickstarter you can upgrade your contribution later in the campaign if you want. I can’t see an option to do that on IGG…

Re your Alchemy Red post: I just look at your website – i don’t really use facebook.
‘ (and will not be doing any more crowdfunding given how River’s going). ‘
…errr ??
Congratulations on making your Resurrecting River target well before the deadline.

95% of the funding has come from my friends, and if one hadn’t put in $500, the book wouldn’t be happening. I’m incredibly grateful but I’m not tapping that same tiny pool of people every time I want to publish a book, it wouldn’t be right. I don’t have a wide enough readership to support crowdfunding, therefore I won’t be attempting it again (which I’ll explain when I publicly address Oblivion in the next quarterly update).
